"InPrint" - Rob Stewart 'ProFile'

Toronto-born Rob Stewart, an experienced diver and underwater photographer, joined members of the Los Angeles-based Sea Shepherd Conservation Society aboard the Ocean Warrior for a four-month expedition to deter poaching of sharks in Costa Rica and Ecuador—the perfect opportunity to start filming his documentary on declining shark populations. However, a series of life and death situations including pirate boat rammings, attempted murder charges, arrests, espionage, corruption and hospitalization were the last things he expected on his journey that has become the beautiful and revealing film, Sharkwater. Bonnie Laufer-Krebs had a chance to talk to the young filmmaker about his passion for saving sharks and their importance to life in the oceans and to life on the planet.

"F1 World" - Traction Control... Living Without It.

The introduction of a standard electronic control unit (ECU) has seen the elimination of traction control on Formula 1 race cars for the 2008 F1 season. According to Panasonic Toyota Racing driver Jarno Trulli, the traction control ban compels drivers to demonstrate their driving abilities at a higher level. Engineers from the team also explain the need for them to adapt the set-up of the TF108 race car to suit the new requirements and offer drivers the best car on the track. The Bahrain Grand Prix, held at the Bahrain International Circuit, located in the desert, poses an intesting challenge. Aerodynamic stability will be essential since race cars will be prone to wheel-spin on the sandy circuit.

From helping out orphans in Tanzania to building homes for Habitat for Humanity, travel experts say an increasing number of baby boomers are participating in volunteer vacations. During these trips, known as “voluntourism,” participants work with various affiliates to offer services or provide relief to those in need. Over the past five years, according to the AARP, the travel industry has seen a dramatic jump in the number of volunteer vacationers. Experts from the Travel Industry Association of America report that in a 2006 survey, a quarter of all travelers indicated they were currently interested in taking a vacation that benefits society – and more than half those respondents were baby boomers.

"F1 World" - Aerodynamics

In Formula 1 races, aerodynamics are one of the most important elements to achieving great speeds. Formula 1 vehicles have smaller frontal areas to maximize the amount of power used to propel it, and decrease the amount of wind resistance encountered. The Panasonic Toyota Racing Team spends an estimated 8,000-9,000 hours a year developing the vehicle in specially-designed wind tunnels, as well as working on CFD, computational fluid dynamics – a computer program used to unearth air flow patterns over the car.

In this behind the scenes video, take a look at a day in the life of a Formula One engineer. It is through race engineers like Francesco Nenci that all technical aspects of the Toyota Formula One cars are coordinated. Ralf Schumacher and Yarno Trulli depend on the engineers to deliver a car that is well tuned and set-up to suit their driving styles at each different track.

Go behind the scenes of Formula One and step into the world of automotive IT, courtesy of the Panasonic Toyota Racing Team. The world of F1 is a complex one. With over 1300 parameters transmitted from Ralf Schumacher’s and Jarno Trulli’s cars to the pits, this data then gets re-transmitted via satellite to Cologne for data processing - and suggested improvements for those back at the track. Watch the video and see how it all works!
